At the start of the meeting, Valery Pikalyov was re-elected as chairman of the Joint Board for another term.
The participants focused on harmonising customs legislation across the Union. They signed a decision on proposed amendments to Article 326 of the EAEU Customs Code, aimed at detailing time limits for post-release checks of customs and other documents and the procedure for calculating those periods; the matter will now be submitted to the EEC.
Goods classification formed a separate part of the agenda. The customs services agreed and signed 6 decisions, including positions on cocoa powder, fibre-optic mesh and a multi-socket adapter.
Other topics included improving the EAEU's transit potential, developing information exchange, controlling temporarily imported vehicles for personal use, organising controls for piggyback transport, developing the risk management system and rules on withdrawal of goods declarations after verification measures have begun.
The customs services also discussed reducing the time needed for operations at road checkpoints while maintaining control quality. With cross-border trade growing and foreign economic activity becoming more digital, they agreed to continue sharing experience on business-process automation, artificial intelligence and computer vision for analysing submitted data and documents. The next meeting is scheduled for the third quarter in the Republic of Belarus.
