Buryat customs halted an illegal nephrite export: a foreign woman leaving for Mongolia through Kyakhta had taped the stone to her waist beneath her clothes.

During control she voluntarily handed inspectors a bag with the mineral. The 55-year-old tourist had filed no passenger declaration and held no permits for exporting a strategically important resource.

She admitted the offence; the nephrite was valued at about RUB 5,000.

An administrative case was opened under Article 16.1(2) of the Code of Administrative Offences for concealing goods from customs control; a fine and possible confiscation may follow.
