Vnukovo customs found undeclared luxury jewellery worth over RUB 2 million in the baggage of a 56-year-old Russian woman arriving transit from the United States via Turkey during selective inspection on the “green” channel.
Brand boxes contained a Bulgari bracelet and earrings and a Mattioli ring. She said she had bought them in Rome for personal use but knew customs rules only partly.
Examination confirmed genuine 750-grade gold pieces with diamond settings.
A criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(1) of the Criminal Code for smuggling strategically important goods; penalties include up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine up to RUB 1 million.
