Extremist literature found among children’s books in St Petersburg

The FCS Russia press office reports in an official release. The headline reads: “Customs in St Petersburg found extremist literature in a shipment of children’s books”.

St Petersburg customs officers detected extremist publications while inspecting a consignment of children’s books that arrived at the Shushary post from the United Kingdom.

Transit documents declared children’s books, dictionaries, cards and posters weighing 12.7 tonnes and valued at about GBP 140,000. Inspectors found 28 extremist books in English and German among the children’s titles.

The shipper was a UK company; the consignee was a Russian firm selling foreign-language books and educational materials.

Examination confirmed prohibited content. Administrative proceedings were opened against the carrier under Article 16.3 of the Administrative Code; the goods were barred from release and the inquiry continues.
