The FCS Russia press office reports in an official release. The headline reads: “Irkutsk customs prevented jewellery smuggling worth RUB 6.3 million”.
Irkutsk customs prevented the import of jewellery valued at RUB 6.3 million. A 48-year-old foreign national arriving from Beijing attempted to carry the items.
During selective control on the “green channel”, officers found two zip bags with 53 crystals and five white-metal rings set with transparent stones, accompanied by IGI gemological certificates.
Examination established that the rings were made of 750- and 950-grade gold and platinum alloys with pink and white diamond settings; the remaining stones were cut diamonds of various sizes.
A criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(1) of the Criminal Code (large-scale smuggling of strategically important goods), punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to RUB 1 million. The goods were seized pending trial.
