A 62-year-old foreign national arriving from Havana was stopped in the green channel. Officers found 225 COHIBA cigars and 70 packs of H.Upmann 1844 and H.Upmann Selecto cigarettes in two rucksacks and a suitcase.
The traveller said he was visiting a friend, had brought the tobacco as a gift and was unaware of customs rules.
A criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(1) of the Russian Criminal Code for large-scale illegal movement of strategically important goods, punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to RUB 1 million.
