Speakers focused on expanding major logistics routes and upgrading border checkpoints through advanced information technology.

The Eurasian Economic Union spans a large share of global transport arteries. Harmonised customs rules across its extensive borders position the bloc as a major transit hub linking Europe and Asia.

Customs is involved in the Russian Ministry of Transport programme to modernise infrastructure at the China border and other crossings. The aim is to digitise interaction between oversight agencies so border clearance takes less time.

In 2025, Russian customs accepted more than 1.4 million electronic transit declarations — nearly the entire volume of such filings.

Transit automation is gaining pace: over four fifths of declarations are registered without an officer, and more than half are released automatically.

Merkusheva highlighted development of the legal and technological framework for transit, including navigation seals, and stressed that unlocking transit potential will remain a service priority regardless of geopolitical conditions.
