FCS Russia stops illegal commercial use of customs information system data

According to an FCS Russia press release, anti-corruption units uncovered commercial use of data from the Unified Automated Information System of Customs Authorities (UAIS TO).

Investigators identified schemes and channels for transferring data. An official of the Central Excise Customs and a representative of a customs-adjacent organisation were detained on suspicion of unlawful activity.

The Investigative Committee of Russia for Moscow opened criminal cases under Article 286(1) (abuse of office), Article 274.1(4) (impact on critical information infrastructure) and Article 183(3) (disclosure of tax secrecy). Investigative and procedural measures are under way.

FCS Russia reminds that unlawful acquisition or disclosure of commercial, tax or banking secrets held in customs information systems, as well as unlawful impact on critical information infrastructure, carries criminal liability of up to eight years’ imprisonment.
