According to an FCS Russia press release, Vnukovo customs officers stopped an attempt at “currency smuggling by a Lithuanian national” on arrival from the United States.
The traveller flew from New York to Moscow via Istanbul. At the “green” channel he orally declared a small amount of cash, but inspection of a leather bag found USD 38,000 — above the limit for undeclared import.
He said the money was wages for personal use and that he skipped the declaration because he was tired after the flight. His conduct shows signs of an offence under Article 200.1(1) of the Criminal Code (cash smuggling). Investigative steps are under way.
