Buryat customs find book about Hitler in car at Mongolia border

At the Mondy checkpoint, Buryat customs officers seized from a Russian driver heading for Mongolia a copy of German author Henneke Kardel’s book “Adolf Hitler — Founder of Israel”, an edition classified as extremist literature. Source: FCS Russia.

The Russian-language volume was in the right front door pocket of his car.

The driver said he had bought the book about five years earlier and was unaware it contained material restricted for movement across the EAEU customs border.

An expert review found extremist content; export of the edition is prohibited.

Buryat customs opened an administrative case under Article 16.3 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offences (failure to comply with import and export prohibitions). The sanction may include a fine and confiscation of the item.

Import and export restrictions on listed goods within the Eurasian Economic Union are set out in Annex 1 to EEC Collegium Decision No. 30 of 21 April 2015 on non-tariff regulation measures.
