The man was stopped in the green channel for selective inspection. Jacket and trouser pockets held two Van Cleef & Arpels bracelets and a ring, two Bvlgari rings, a Graff chain with pendant, product certificates and earrings set with transparent stones.
He said a friend had asked him to hand the valuables to another person.
Expert examination confirmed the pieces were genuine, made of 750- and 900-grade gold and platinum with diamond, malachite and turquoise settings.
A criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code for smuggling strategically important goods; the penalty may include up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to RUB one million.
