FCS Russia said that customs officers at Domodedovo Airport stopped undeclared jewellery worth RUB 11.2 million carried by a Russian woman arriving from Dubai.
She was selected for checks in the “green” channel. Baggage screening indicated items that looked like jewellery.
During the search, officers found 30 bracelets in a suitcase and, in a backpack, two more bracelets, two pairs of earrings, nine pendants and a precious-metal charm. She also removed a necklace with a pendant and handed it to the inspector.
The traveller said the goods were for personal use and that she was unfamiliar with customs rules. Expert examination confirmed items made of 750 gold and 925 silver with diamonds, amethysts, quartz, onyx and chalcedony inlays.
A criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(1) of the Criminal Code (illegal movement of strategically important goods). The article provides for up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to RUB 1 million.
