FCS Russia said that customs officers at Domodedovo found two undeclared Cartier bracelets worth about RUB 2.4 million hidden in a passenger’s footwear.
The Russian national arriving from Kuwait was checked in the “green” channel. The items, wrapped in a sock, were discovered inside a trainer.
He said a woman had asked him to take the jewellery to Moscow. He knew customs rules but believed the pieces were fake; he had no receipts and did not know their value.
Examination confirmed 750 gold with diamond inlays. The bracelets were seized and a criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(1) of the Criminal Code, carrying up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to RUB 1 million.
