North Caucasus operational customs removed more than 10 kg of sibutramine from illegal circulation. A 28-year-old resident of Dagestan had ordered the substance by post from a Central Asian country.

During joint operational work with the Dagestani FSB, officers detained the man and found more than a thousand boxes of capsules and sachets at his home in Tagirkent-Kazmalyar.

Investigators established that orders were placed via a messenger app and that he was aware sibutramine is banned from free circulation in Russia.

A criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(1.1) of the Criminal Code, carrying up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to RUB 1 million. The inquiry continues.
