Since 19 September, trucks had queued in Kazakhstan outside border posts waiting to enter Russia; FCS Russia now says all checkpoints on the bilateral section are operating normally with no queues at the border itself.
The service stresses that customs does not conduct checks at Russia–Kazakhstan crossing points and does not affect transit times there. Mobile teams on approach roads carry out selective controls inland; where documents are in order, checks take no more than eight minutes.
Post-release control is systematic. In the first nine months of 2025, mobile teams detected 8,000 vehicles carrying 123,000 tonnes of goods in violation, including timber, sanctioned goods and tobacco.
Thirty road checkpoints operate on this border section; the heaviest traffic flows through Mashtakovo, Bugrisoye, Sagarchin, Karauzek, Isilkul, Ozinki, Petukhovo, Olkhovka and Orsk.
